Summary Description:

Cognascents is looking for a Senior (Sr.) Mechanical Engineer that would lead and execute mechanical engineering and FFS assessments on pressure containing equipment in support of the mechanical integrity programs of petrochemical and oil and gas facilities (inclusive of offshore assets).

Essential Job Function:

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be required to read technical and engineering drawings. Here are some of the tasks that may need to be carried out by the engineer:

  • Perform integrity assessments for pressure equipment and related processing equipment.
  • Execute Fitness for Service (FFS) following RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices) and industry codes (API 579, etc.) for engineering assessments of equipment and piping.
  • Support the implementation and execution of integrity programs for facilities onshore and offshore assets.
  • Review and analyze inspection results.
  • Perform risk assessments (Risk-Based Inspection, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, etc.) based on available information.
  • Perform engineering analysis to applicable codes, standards, and accepted practice.
  • Manage day-to-day tasks for the customers and internal project teams.
  • Manage client interface and lead client facing meetings.
  • Perform data gathering and field capture of information necessary to the successful completion of the assessments.
  • Support and or execute the project management and client facing responsibilities of the projects.
  • Work with cutting edge engineering and asset integrity software.
  • Organize and gather process and detailed drawing information.
  • Work for and support other team members and engineering personnel with specific project tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering, Masters or Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas or willing to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta is a plus.
  • Active member of a professional practice organizations (e.g., API, NACE, ASME, etc.) is a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in any combination of the upstream, midstream, refining, and specialty chemicals industries.
  • Proficient and expert level experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and applicable 3rd party software programs.
  • Proficiency in inspection, integrity engineering, and pressure equipment design or related mechanical engineering topics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Solid Works, or other comparable process simulation software, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Experience with the relevant American Petroleum Institute’s (API) applicable codes and standards.
  • API certifications in API 510, 570, 580, and or 571, are a plus.
  • Data analytics and computational analytics experience are a plus.
  • Must be able to lawfully work in the United States.

Travel Requirements:

This position will support customer facilities and offshore assets which can be located outside of the greater Houston, TX area

Travel requirements vary throughout the year, but no more than 10% travel is anticipated.
