The Operating Envelope Gap Is Still Causing Major Incidents: How SOLs and IOWs Prevent Catastrophic Failure
Live Webinar | Hosted by Cognascents
About This Webinar
Investigations of major industry incidents repeatedly reveal a common theme: facilities were operating outside critical process or equipment limits long before the event occurred. Whether the outcome is equipment damage, accelerated corrosion, loss of containment, or a major process safety incident, organizations often struggle to define, monitor, and respond to the operating conditions that matter most.
This webinar explores the “Operating Envelope Gap” and how Safe Operating Limits (SOLs) and Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs) provide the framework needed to manage risk, protect assets, and improve operational reliability.
What You Will Learn
By the end of this session, attendees will understand:
✔ Lessons from recent industry incidents that demonstrate how operating outside safe limits can lead to process safety events, equipment damage, and reliability losses
✔ The concept of an operating envelope, and how SOLs and IOWs work together to define, monitor, and maintain safe operating conditions
✔ The difference between SOLs and IOWs and their distinct roles in safe operations and preventing incidents
✔ Example case studies of how leading operators establish, document, and monitor effective SOL and IOW programs
✔ A practical roadmap for implementing and sustaining SOL and IOW programs — including excursion management, response actions, and integration with existing integrity and process safety systems
