Essentials Job Description:

As a 3D Designer, your essential job functions will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • 3D Modeling and Design:
    • Develop detailed 3D models of piping, equipment, structures, and other components for oil & gas and petrochemical facilities using AutoDesk Plant3D.
    • Create accurate and detailed piping isometrics, orthographic drawings, and other deliverables as required.
    • Ensure that all designs adhere to industry standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other designers to develop and refine designs that meet project objectives and timelines.
    • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure that design intent is accurately captured and implemented.
    • Provide regular updates on project progress, potential issues, and design changes to the lead engineer and project stakeholders.
    • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
      • Perform thorough checks on all design work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
      • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and client meetings as needed.
      • Address and resolve any design-related issues that arise during the construction and commissioning phases.
    • Documentation and Reporting:
      • Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including model reports, design calculations, and material take-offs.
      • Ensure that all documentation is accurately filed and readily accessible for project team members.
      • Assist in the development and maintenance of design standards, templates, and best practices for 3D modeling in AutoDesk Plant3D.
      • Continuous Improvement:
        • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in 3D modeling software, industry standards, and best practices in the oil & gas and petrochemical sectors.
        • Proactively seek opportunities to improve design processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance productivity and quality.
        • Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and support staff as required.

        Minimum Requirements:

        • Education:
          • Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
        • Experience:
          • A minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D design for oil & gas and petrochemical facilities is preferred.
          • Proficiency in AutoDesk Plant3D is mandatory, with a strong portfolio of relevant project work.
          • Experience with other design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit is an asset.
          • Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, API, etc.) and codes relevant to oil & gas and petrochemical facility design.
        • Technical Skills:
          • Expertise in 3D modeling, piping design, and layout development for industrial facilities.
          • Strong understanding of process engineering, equipment specifications, and materials used in oil & gas and petrochemical facilities.
          • Ability to interpret and apply P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and other engineering documents.
        • Soft Skills:
          • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to various stakeholders.
          • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
          • High attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate designs.
        • Work Ethic:
          • Demonstrated ability to work diligently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
          • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
          • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

        Travel Requirements:

        Travel requirements vary throughout the year, but no more than 10% of travel is anticipated.
